Manuel Antonio Beach Costa Rica - A Guide to Manuel Antonio Quepos
Manuel Antonio is located 130kms from San Jose. You can travel via airplane, there are two major companies Sansa and Nature Air. You will find maps on their websites which you can use. Also many hotels will pick you up at those places with no charge; the flight takes around 25 minutes.
Travel to the area is easy and can be done in a number of different ways. Regularly scheduled air service is available through Sansa Airlines, the flight takes 20 minutes. Driving or taking a bus will take between 3-4 hours, so be patient. You can take them at La Coca Cola, a bus stop for Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Prices are relatively cheap. You'll never pay more than $8 for a bus ticket, unless you use a shuttle or Grey line, but those are private, and will take you directly to your hotel. If you drive, make sure to get a 4X4 with GPS, there aren't many road signs and you can get lost easily.
There are many things to do in Manuel Antonio, they have the biggest tour operator in the Pacific called Iguana Tours, and from there you can choose from over 40 options, so choose wisely. Try defining what is that you are looking for, eco tourism, adventure, budget, etc.
One of Manuel Antonio's biggest assets is the Manuel Antonio National Park. The park was created in 1972, with a total area of 680 hectares, which surround the coast as well as 3 magnificent beaches. So there you have beach and beach on the same pace, giving an abundant amount of wildlife, great for bird watching and hiking. If you are into eco tourist this is the pace to be, and even if you aren't, the things you'll see there are amazing. There is a fee to get into the park, I believe its $10 per person and it's closed on Monday, also it has a schedule, from 7 am to 4pm. This could change at some point, so double check at your hotel.
There are over 100 hotels in the area, from $10 a night to $3,000, so check your budget and make reservations as soon as possible. This town has one of the highest numbers of English speaking people in the country, so you won't have trouble communicating. Sports bars and restaurants are abundant, just have fun and enjoy!
